![]() ![]() To think that 14-17 year olds could be charged for and sentenced to lifetime registration as sex offenders is kind of mind-blowing. ![]() I think the Greensburg, PA case was quite interesting. Going through college, I knew the basics but some of the stuff mentioned in this video went into greater detail as far as what plagiarism is. ![]() Are they learning better with or without the technology?įirst and foremost, I never knew how much stuff was considered plagiarism. I would also like the students' feedback on whether or not they like the traditional learning environment than with the use of technology. I would like to ask the teachers if they have had any problems with the use of the iPods in class being a disadvantage rather than a learning tool. Also although the use of Google Docs and Apps with the iPod touch is a great idea, I think that the use of these devices will also distract the students. I would only use this in certain instances but not everyday simply because the technology would distract the student from following along. I also disagreed with the Morristown High School's use of tablets and iPad's to read the texts. I would still want my students to learn how to type instead of speaking everything for the software to write for them. I would approve of it's use but not on a consistent basis. What i didn't agree with was the Dragon Dictate software. The Kildonan School's assistive technology program was very helpful for those students who have dyslexia. I also like the fact that Mark Coleman went into further details about online course learning and how it may affect the success of those students who do not have access to the Internet. This gives the teacher more time to review or introduce a new topic in the classroom. It gives a different perspective to students and helps them to solve the problems at home first and double check during the classroom session. I really liked the integration of the backwards learning in the Math class. Oftentimes, schools don't provide this type of training or programs to their students due to lack of funding. I think that it is great to teach students how to use different technologies, especially if they plan on developing a career within the media field. ![]() Since I am looking to teach journalism and media courses, I was really interested in the video highlighting Oceanside High School. I think that this is a great way to keep the parents well-informed and in the know with the content so that they may offer homework help when needed. The Saturday prep classes for parents is also a great resource for those parents who may not be up to par with the math subjects that theur children are studying. I also like the fact the parents are well informed in their child's academic success through their own personal access. Also, the fact that they are able to provide the students with personal laptops at home to do their homework and research at home. With the school in the video, I like the fact that they were more engaged in the students' academic success. To me, I felt like that was ineffective in assuring that the students understood what they were working on. The students' work was not monitored but rather they were just given an iPad and told to work on the software until they got to the next level. I also found that the technology served as the time that a teacher would be teaching directly to the students. I feel like some of the classrooms didn't need them. There were iPads, Macs and laptops in almost every classroom. I have been substituting in these schools since April 2015 and I think that their technologies are distractions rather than progressive education. There was mention of color coded calendars, I don't think that would be great help for me, therefore I would like to know of a number of strategies that I can pick and choose from to help me with this.Ĭurrently there are a number of Charter Schools in the Chicago Public Schools system that are technology wired. I would like to learn strategies on how I can be more organized. I am typically an extremely disorganized person. What I would like to know more about is how to organize the work. I do think that the advice of being a martyr and just accepting a position is a great view of knowing when you should accept positions and knowing when to leave. I think that learning from my peers and allowing my students to teach their peers will bring a greater sense of community within my students. This would provide me with a great resource and possibly a collaboration. Since I am going into secondary English, I think that getting to know the librarian is good advice. I also think the advice of asking others who have been there before you is great advice. I didn't think that the advice should have encouraged that the students should build a community where students take risks. I did like the fact that the advice was to be consistent and respectful. This list provides a great deal of information and advice for teachers. ![]()
